The shop’s name is an acronym for The Women Of Willendorf, which is a play on the Neolithic statue called Venus of Willendorf -or- The Woman of Willendorf. The statue is one of the first ever recorded pieces of art dating back 30,000 years.

The Woman of Willendorf has contemporarily been used as a stand-in to illustrate empowerment, sensuality, sexuality, fertility, the goddess trope and anything relating to a deep feminine experience - however you choose to interpret that.

Our name, is in part an art history joke / nod to our shared experiences in art school, but more so it’s a reminder to show up for ourselves, to support other femmes in our industry and do our part to break barriers for a more inclusive future in tattooing - with fun and simplicity at the forefront.
