Health & Safety

Things to remember before your appointment

  • Get a good sleep and try to avoid drinking the night prior to your appointment, alcohol can increase bleeding for up to 24 hours, it can dilute pigment, affect the appearance of your tattoo and prolong the healing process, so save the Champagne for a post tat celebration instead!

  • Before you show up have a decent meal and drink lots of water. Pack a little sugary drink / granola bar for the appointment in case you start to feel sick of dizzy (sugar is your BFF!)

  • Dress accordingly - make sure to wear loose clothing that can easily reveal the area being tattooed. Keep in mind that tattoos on the torso, especially on the ribs may require you to be shirtless. If this makes you uncomfortable, consider wearing a button down shirt that can be rolled up or a crop top to easily reveal the area.

  • When done with care, tattoos are a fun new addition to your life so let’s make sure we are properly prepped for the experience! Being nervous can be normal for someone who is new to getting tattooed, but try not to worry too much, you’re in good hands and we will be there every step of the way.

After Care

  • This is the clear plastic-like bandage that you can see your tattoo through, it can be left on for 24 to 72 hours. For best results when you’re ready to remove the bandage, do it slowly from the corners inward - preferably in the shower with unscented soap and warm water.

Note: You can shower with this type of bandage prior to removal without any problems, just no baths!

Avoid direct sunlight when wearing your second skin (etc.) bandage.

In the event of a bad reaction remove the bandage immediately. Bad reactions can include redness, severe itching, burning feelings surrounding the area of your bandage.

  • 3-12 hours after being tattooed you can remove your wrap. Don’t freak out, there might be some dried blood or ink on the bandage (this is normal) ! Wash tattoo with warm water and unscented soap.

  • Once your new tattoo is washed and gently patted dry, you can moisturize it with a light layer of unscented lotion or Aquaphor.

Note: do not use Vaseline or Polysporin as this can affect the healing process.

You can then continue to apply a thin layer of your unscented lotion or Aquaphor 2 to 3 times a day until the healing process has calmed down.

In 2-3 days after your bandage is off the tattoo will begin to flake or scab do not pick at or scratch your new tattoo! That is how ink falls out and nasty infections form.

Helpful Tips

  • The first (and maybe second) night after removing your bandage, wear clothing to bed that covers your new tattoo to avoid residual ink leaking on your sheets.

  • Keep your fresh tat out of direct sunlight for at least 2 weeks to protect from burns or sun damage. UV RAYS are bad bad bad for fresh ink.

  • Do not re-bandage your tattoos

  • Do not apply sunscreen to a new healing tattoo it is an open wound and needs time to heal. sunscreen can really mess with the healing process so protecting it with clothing coverage instead is a great alternative!

  • Do not submerge your new tattoo in water; this means no long self care baths, sexy hot tubbing, river rafting adventures and skinny dips in pools for at a minimum of 2-4 weeks depending on the work. Water can cause infection and poor healing.

  • Avoid tanning beds for 2-3 weeks

  • Wear loose clothing over your tattoo while it heals to avoid rubbing or pulling off any scabs

  • After it is healed apply sunscreen when ever your tat will have sun exposure because over time the sun will fade your tattoo

Shop Policies

WOW Tattoos is an inclusive and friendly space. As such, we have a zero tolerance policy for racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, oppressive or aggressive behaviour or hate speech of any kind. If for any reason the client or artist feels unsafe, either party has the personal right to terminate the service without explanation.

We are committed to making WOW Tattoos as comfortable, welcoming and easy going as possible. In order to create and maintain an environment that reflects our commitment, we feel open and honest, direct communication before, during and after any appointment is the clearest path to a successful and enjoyable experience for both client and artist.

With that in mind, here are a few policies we have enacted in our shop that helps everyone feel safe, heard & excited for their new tattoo!

General Policies

  • All clients must be at least 18+ years of age and provide a government issued ID at the time of their scheduled appointment. Our artists will not provide tattoos for anyone under the age of 18, regardless of parental consent / approval.

  • Clients who come to a tattoo appointment under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol will be asked to leave and schedule an appointment at a later date.

  • At WOW, we understand that life is complicated and sometimes things happen out of our control, there for we have a 30 minute grace period for lateness. Please do not abuse this grace period - our schedules are booked so we can give our clients the best experience possible, any last minute changes to that schedule hinders our ability to do our jobs properly.

Anything over 30 minutes will result in a cancellation of appointment and a forfeited deposit. If the client would like to rebook, they will be required to send another deposit. If the client has selected a flash piece for their tattoo appointment and are not renewing the deposit, the client's chosen flash piece will be re-released to the public.

We also ask that clients do not show up early for their appointments, we are a closed studio with a tight schedule and early arrival puts stress on the preparation and set-up for your upcoming appointment. If you arrive early, please wait outside until your allotted time.

  • Clients who fail to mention that they won’t be coming to their scheduled appointment will not be welcomed back to the shop and their name will be added to the no-no list™ that all artists will consult when approving future appointments.

If you can not make it to your appointment please let us know prior. We understand that every so often unavoidable things happen- if your cancelation without notice falls under that category, send your artist a message and we will deal with it on a case by case basis.

  • If the client would like to have a friend or family member join them at their appointment, they must first get approval from the artists prior to their visit at the studio.

  • At this point in time, WOW Tattoos is a private studio that can not accommodate walk-ins. All visits are by appointment only. If you would like to pop in for a chat outside of an agreed upon appointment, please contact one of the artists personally or visit the artists tab on the main menu.

Before During + After your tattoo

  • Our shop is a single level ground floor, open studio and is 100% wheelchair accessible. We have one gender neutral washroom, a place to put your shoes and coat, comfortable couches, a small refrigerator and lots of cold water! We lock the door during appointments (if it’s not a million degrees outside) and will try our best to accommodate any specific need, given proper awareness prior to the appointment!

  • For the best quality visit, clients should be hydrated, well fed and well rested prior to their appointment. Clients are encouraged to bring a snack or sugary drink to avoid fainting, queasiness and/or hangry clients :) The process of tattooing can also cause the client to sweat more than your average activity, so remembering to rehydrate post tattoo is also strongly recommended.

  • Numbing cream is a revolutionary advancement to the tattoo industry and we love to use it and recommend it often, however WOW Tattoos and our affiliated artist will not be held responsible for any potential reactions your numbing cream may have in relation to immediate side effects on the clients physical body, the healing process or the general integrity of the clients tattoo.

  • To ensure the overall health and safety as well as the quality of the clients tattoo, It is required to inform the artist of any and all medications that they have taken in the last 72 hours or will be taking on the date of the appointment (Skin medication like accutane, Stimulants, Blood thinners, Contraceptive medication etc.) This also includes disclosure of any particular health condition the client may have - (severe rashes or chronic skin conditions in the desired tattoo area, diabetes, anemia, anxiety etc.)

  • as mentioned above, WOW Tattoos does not accept abuse, aggressive behaviour or harassment of any kind in our shop. Any offence or hint of a potential offensive scenario towards artists, staff or other clients present will result in immediate removal from the premises.

  • We are committed to R.E.S.P.E.C.T at WOW Tattoos which can show up in many ways. One specific facet of that commitment is proper + conscious use of pronouns. As there is no limitation or set standard for how someone should look depending on their pronouns, we make sure to give all our clients the space to clarify how they want to be addressed at the beginning of each session via our intake forms. What ever the client puts on the intake form will be reinforced and respected by all in the shop.

Understanding that people make mistakes, corrections are to be made immediately, without drawing unnecessary attention through long winded explanation or apology.

    Artists:

    • Brieanne (she/her)

    • Jess (she/they)

    • Erin (she/her)

Respect goes both ways, if you don’t know just ask!

  • As tattooing is a very technical and visual art form, we love to share our work with the community and prospective clients. It gives a greater understanding of our capabilities as well as a look at what we get up to in the shop!

Our clients can indicate whether or not they are comfortable with having their photos taken or shared on the client intake form given at the beginning of the appointment. We greatly encourage our clients to also take photos while experiencing our space - we feel energy thrives in a collaborative environment!

Please do not take photos or videos of other clients in the shop without prior consent.

  • • Clients must shower before their appointment. Artists are at a very close proximity to your physical body so being fresh and clean makes the experience enjoyable for both parties involved.

    • Clients should NOT shave or remove hair in the proposed tattoo area before arriving at the appointment unless otherwise directed by the artist.

    • Clients should not apply lotion to the proposed tattoo area for a minimum of 12 hours prior to the appointment.

    • Clients should wear appropriate clothing that supports access to the proposed tattoo area (shorts for a thigh placement, short or loose sleeved shirts for arm placements etc.)

    • We ask that the client not touch the tattooed area once the process has begun or immediately after the tattoo session has finished, without proper protective coverage.

Please note: If you are having a more intimate area of your body tattooed, keep in mind that our studio an open space and other people will be present. We do not have privacy screens, but will do everything in our power to accommodate your comfort and keep things as private as possible!

If the client requires a one-on-one session, they should communicate prior to booking a timeslot and we will try our best to accommodate but are not able to guarantee a spot as the studio does not have any private rooms, there for, the appointment would have to be booked at a time when the shop is empty
